Pankhurst Trust
A historically inspired website to support the legacy of Emmeline Pankhurst and the fight for women’s equality.
The Pankhurst Centre is the former home of Emmeline Pankhurst, and the birthplace of the suffragette movement.
Today, it continues to educate, inspire, and support women through its museum and community programmes, run in partnership with Manchester Women’s Aid.
We worked with The Pankhurst Trust and Manchester Women’s Aid to design and build a new website that’s accessible, affordable, and historically rich, celebrating the heritage of the movement while supporting a modern-day mission for women’s rights.
OUR APPROACH
A shared foundation, distinct expression
The Pankhurst Trust site was built using the same component library as the Manchester Women’s Aid website, helping reduce costs and speed up development while maintaining functional consistency across both organisations.
To give The Pankhurst Trust its own identity while maintaining continuity with Manchester Women’s Aid, we applied a shared type system across both sites, creating a subtle visual connection between the two organisations.
The colour palette draws on the traditional suffragette colours, but uses softer, more muted tones to promote calm, accessibility, and warmth, ensuring excellent contrast and legibility throughout.
We also introduced painted edge effects on select imagery, adding a tactile, human quality that reflects the site's historical and personal stories.
OUR APPROACH
Built for scale and simplicity
The site was delivered using a single-install, multi-site Craft CMS setup, which allows both the Pankhurst Trust and Manchester Women’s Aid to be managed under one backend, reducing overhead and streamlining content governance. Key features include:
- Custom page templates and flexible content blocks
- Rich storytelling components for history, events, and exhibitions
- Image optimisation and CDN delivery for fast, accessible browsing
The architecture supports multi-site content delivery, with live preview, secure hosting, and backend integrations for form handling and performance optimisation.

It balances historical storytelling with present-day relevance, giving the organisation a digital home that supports education, fundraising, and community engagement.
